About
My work is personal and is inspired by my past. It thrives in the present but always has some thread of history leading back to where I started. It is a reminder of the choices I have made and the person I have become. My art draws upon the relationship between the natural and the industrial, creating a link between man-made objects and the organic, natural forms. It strives to showcase the relationship between crisp, clean, forms made with technology and rough, handmade, designs inspired by the natural world around me.
Growing up, I always enjoyed working with my hands. From drawing and painting to tinkering with circuit boards and engines, I loved the feeling of having tools in my hands. I never set out to be an artist; in fact just a few years ago I was working at a metro-Milwaukee auto dealership with a career as a technician. It was my love of taking things apart that led me down that path. I fell in love with the process of fixing things. Finding out why something doesn’t work and then fixing it was a huge rush. The love of that process is what brought me back to art.
Creating something is a process. Much like fixing something, often times I find myself with many pieces to a detailed puzzle and I get excited and inspired about the process of finding a use for those individual pieces to create an overall composition. Only when a person understands the process can he or she truly understand the truth stated in the composition. My work is no different. I am always looking for the final composition, but the individual pieces and the process of finding the answer is what drives me to create.
